Write for us

We welcome pitches that bring a precise, fresh question to the worlds of objects, places, customs, images and materials. A strong proposal is specific enough to explain its angle and open enough to make room for careful thought.

What suits the publication

We consider explanatory essays, comparisons, visual readings and accounts of how an object, custom or place has acquired meaning. Useful pitches find a clear detail to examine, show why it matters beyond itself and avoid treating one experience as universal.

What to send

Use the Contact page to send a short outline, a proposed working title, the central question, the intended reader and any relevant sources or expertise. Tell us whether the piece has been published or offered elsewhere. A brief, focused pitch is more useful than a finished essay sent without context.

Our process

Proposals are reviewed for fit, clarity, originality and the care the subject requires. We may ask for a narrower angle or further context. Sending a proposal does not mean it has been accepted, and no response time is promised.
